Mobile — Crash Reporting

Crash reporting is non-optional for any production mobile app. Free tiers cover indie cases; paid tools shine for distributed tracing across mobile + backend. Free / generous tier

• ★ Sentry — free hosted tier (5k errors/month) and unlimited self-host (OSS, BSL/MIT). Mobile SDKs for iOS, Android, RN, Flutter, KMP, Capacitor. Distributed tracing into your backend. The default in 2026 across the web/mobile/backend triple.
• ★ Firebase Crashlytics — free; included with Firebase. iOS, Android, RN (@react-native-firebase/crashlytics), Flutter, Unity. The default if you're already on Firebase.
• GlitchTip — open-source Sentry-protocol-compatible alternative; free self-host.

Paid + free tier

• Bugsnag (SmartBear) — free tier (1k events/day historically); excellent breadcrumbs and release health.
• Instabug — paid + free; in-app bug reporting + crashes; popular in QA-heavy teams.
• Rollbar — paid + free; web-first but mobile SDKs exist.
• Honeybadger — paid; small free tier; primarily server but mobile via REST.

Mobile-specific paid

• Embrace — mobile-native APM; user-session-level traces; paid.
• Datadog RUM Mobile — paid; ties into Datadog APM.
• New Relic Mobile — paid; long-running.
• AppDynamics Mobile (Cisco) — enterprise.
• Logiq.ai, Raygun, Airbrake — alternatives.

Sunset / migrate from

• Microsoft App Center Crashes — sunset March 2025. Migrate to Sentry, Crashlytics, Bugsnag, or others.
• Firebase Crashlytics for Unity — supported but check current status.
• HockeyApp — sunset long ago.

Symbolication / dSYMs / mappings

• iOS dSYMs — generated by Xcode; upload to your crash reporter (Fastlane has lanes for this).
• Android ProGuard / R8 mapping files — upload per release.
• Hermes source maps (RN) — required for symbolicated JS stacks.
• Flutter symbol files — upload per release.

Native crash specifics

• iOS: Mach exceptions, signals, NSExceptions, watchdog terminations. App-hangs are tracked separately by MetricKit.
• Android: native (NDK) crashes need separate symbolication; ANRs (App Not Responding) are a distinct event class.
