Wearable Aggregation & Health Connect

Apple Health, Google Health Connect, GadgetBridge — getting your data out of N apps and into one place.

After 2-3 years of using Apple Watch + Garmin + Oura + Strong + Fitbod + Strava, you'll have the same data in seven places, none of them complete. The aggregation layer fixes this.

Sister sections: Apple Watch, Garmin, Oura & Whoop, Open-Source Wearables, Health Records & FHIR, Quantified Self DIY, Home Assistant Add-ons, BLE & Bluetooth IoT, Prometheus Stack for Grafana.

The OS aggregators (free, the defaults)

  • Apple Health (iOS) — the iOS aggregator; HealthKit; baked in; free; reads/writes data from any HK-aware app; export ZIP available. See Apple Watch.
  • Google Health Connect (Android) — Android's HealthKit equivalent; free; system-level; arrived 2022, mainstream by 2024-25, default on Android 14+. Reads from Fitbit / Pixel Watch / Samsung Health / Oura / Whoop / Strava / MyFitnessPal / Strong / Hevy / etc. Single biggest 2024-26 wearable-ecosystem improvement on Android.
  • Samsung Health — Samsung's stack; integrates with Galaxy Watch; reads/writes Health Connect.
  • Huawei Health — China-focused; sync with Health Connect on rooted / sideload setups.

GadgetBridge — the FOSS Android aggregator

  • ★ ★ GadgetBridge — FOSS Android client for dozens of closed wearables without their official cloud apps; F-Droid + Play Store. Single best 2026 pick if you don't want Mi Band / Amazfit / Fossil / Pebble / Sony / Casio cloud accounts.
  • Supported (Dec 2024 list, growing):
    • Xiaomi Mi Band 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 (★ — the most-supported family).
    • Amazfit Bip / GTR / GTS / Stratos / T-Rex / Cheetah (★).
    • Pebble (Time / Time Round / Time Steel).
    • Fossil Hybrid / Hybrid HR.
    • Sony SmartWatch / SWR50 / SWR12.
    • Casio GBA / GBX / GBD-200 / WSD-F20.
    • Garmin (limited) — read-only metrics.
    • Pixel Watch (very limited) — sleep notifications mostly.
    • PineTime / InfiniTime.
    • Bangle.js.
    • Mi Scale 1 / 2 (smart scale).
  • Local SQLite store; activities export to GPX / FIT; integrates with OpenTracks for activity records.
  • Health Connect bridge — recent versions write into Health Connect → fans out to other apps.

Health Connect ecosystem (Android-side)

Apps writing or reading Health Connect in 2026 (curated):

  • Wearables: Fitbit, Pixel Watch, Samsung Health, Oura, Whoop, Garmin Connect (since 2024), Polar Flow, COROS, Suunto.
  • Workout apps: Strong, Hevy, FitNotes, Strava, Komoot, Nike Run Club, Adidas Running, RidewithGPS, Wger.
  • Nutrition: MyFitnessPal, Cronometer, Lose It, Yazio, MacroFactor.
  • Sleep: Sleep As Android, Sleep Cycle, Pillow.
  • Cycle: Clue, Flo, Drip, Periodical.
  • Habit: Loop Habit Tracker, HabitNow.

The default plumbing on Android in 2026: install one or two trackers, write into Health Connect, read in your dashboard of choice.

Self-host / DIY pipelines

  • GarminDB (FOSS Python) — Garmin Connect → SQLite mirror. See Garmin.
  • Apple Health Auto Export (iOS, paid) — HK → CSV / JSON to iCloud / Dropbox; the iOS export workhorse.
  • Health Connect → Home Assistant (HACS integration, community) — reads HC; pulls into HA + InfluxDB.
  • oura-python, whoop-python, withings-api — official / unofficial API clients for those who pay the sub.
  • Strava-API + stravalib — Strava → your DB.
  • wger API — bidirectional with the FOSS workout server.

Stack pattern (real-world): Garmin / Apple Watch / Oura → Apple Health (or HC) → Auto Export / GarminDB → SQLite → Grafana (see Prometheus Stack).

Cross-platform sync helpers (paid)

  • Health Sync (Android, paid one-time) — Fitbit / Garmin / Strava / Polar ⇆ Health Connect / Google Fit / Samsung Health. The "fix the broken sync between brand X and brand Y" tool of choice on Android.
  • HealthFit (iOS, paid one-time) — Apple Health → FIT / TCX / GPX → Strava / TrainingPeaks / Garmin Connect.
  • RunGap (iOS, paid + free) — same idea; activities mover.
  • SyncMyTracks (Android, paid + free) — activity sync among 30+ services.

These exist because direct integrations break constantly; a paid translator app is the durable answer for cross-brand workflows.

Home Assistant integrations

  • Withings (HACS / official) — pulls weight, HR, sleep, BP into HA.
  • Garmin Connect (HACS) — body battery, steps, sleep.
  • Fitbit (HACS).
  • Oura (HACS) — Oura → HA.
  • Strava (HACS) — recent activity card.
  • See Home Assistant Add-ons.

Cost / license honesty

  • Apple Health / Google Health Connect — free, OS-level.
  • GadgetBridge — AGPL-3.0; F-Droid free.
  • Health Sync / HealthFit / RunGap — paid one-time or low subscription (~$2-10).
  • GarminDB / Runalyze / Open Health Stack — FOSS.
  • Oura / Whoop / Fitbit official APIs — gated by their subscriptions.

Pick this if…

  • iPhone household: Apple Health is the default; Apple Health Auto Export for raw exports.
  • Android household: Google Health Connect is the default; GadgetBridge if you also want closed wearables without their clouds.
  • Cross-brand sync nightmare: Health Sync (Android) or HealthFit (iOS).
  • Garmin + DIY dashboard: GarminDB → SQLite → Grafana.
  • Mi Band / Amazfit / Pebble owner who hates cloud accounts: GadgetBridge.
  • Total quantified-self pipeline: see Quantified Self DIY.
