The honest reality
This is a mostly-paid category. The OSS scene around outbound is thin — credible sales engagement requires sender-reputation infrastructure, deliverability monitoring, and contact databases that don't have free equivalents at scale. Free tiers are real but limit-bound; expect to graduate within months once outbound works.

- Nothing OSS matches the depth of Instantly / Smartlead / Apollo as of 2026 — outbound stays mostly paid.
Patterns to know
- Use a separate domain for cold outbound (e.g.,
getyourcompany.com) — protects your main domain's deliverability if a campaign gets flagged. - Multiple sending mailboxes per domain — sustainable volume per inbox is ~30–50 / day; rotate.
- Warm before sending — 2–4 weeks of warmup before real campaigns.
- Verify lists — un-verified email addresses crater deliverability.
- Personalize the first line — generic templates hit spam folders and have ~0% reply rate.
- CAN-SPAM / GDPR / CASL — comply per region. EU B2B cold outbound is legally fraught (legitimate-interest balancing test).
