OKRs & Goal Tracking
OKRs, KPIs, and performance reviews — the structured-feedback layer above day-to-day PM.
For day-to-day project management see Project Management for Ops. For engagement / pulse surveys see Surveys & Feedback. For HRIS-bundled performance see HR & HRMS.
Open source / self-host
- ★ OKR Tracker (oslokommune) — open source; Vue; built and used by City of Oslo. Apache 2.0. The cleanest OSS pick if you want a real OKR tool.
- OpenOKR / Wobjective / Plus — community projects; vet recent activity.
- Excel / Google Sheets — what most teams actually use; the ceremony-to-value ratio of dedicated OKR software is real, and a shared sheet is often enough.
Hosted (free tiers)
- ★ Mooncamp Free — small free tier; modern OKR tool.
- ★ Range Free — free tier; check-ins + goals + standups; popular for async teams.
- Lattice Free Trial — paid product, no permanent free tier.
- 15Five Free Trial — same.
- Quantive (formerly Gtmhub) — paid; OKR-focused; free trial.
- Ally.io (Microsoft) — folded into Viva Goals; free with M365 in some plans.
- Weekdone — paid; free for very small teams.
- Tability — modern OKR tool; small free tier.
- Perdoo — paid; free trial.
Performance review platforms (paid)
- ★ Lattice — modern incumbent; performance + OKRs + 1:1s + engagement; paid.
- ★ 15Five — competitor; weekly check-ins + reviews; paid.
- Culture Amp — engagement-survey-first; expanded into performance; paid.
- Leapsome — EU-favored; paid.
- Reflektive, Betterworks, Engagedly — alternatives.
- Workday Performance — enterprise; bundled with Workday HRIS.
1:1 / async check-ins
- Range — async standups / mood / goals; free tier.
- Friday — work-from-home async standup tool; paid.
- Hypercontext — 1:1 agendas; small free tier.
- Soapbox — same niche.
- Standuply — Slack-native standups; small free tier.
Engagement surveys
- ★ PostHog Surveys — bundled; see Surveys & Feedback.
- ★ Formbricks — OSS surveys; same page.
- Officevibe — pulse / eNPS; small free tier.
- Culture Amp — paid.
- Lattice Engagement — bundled.
- Glint (LinkedIn / Microsoft) — enterprise.
Patterns to know
- The OKR ritual is the work, not the tool. A shared doc + a 30-min weekly review beats a fancy tool that nobody opens.
- Quarterly cadence > monthly. Monthly OKRs become a status report; quarterly forces stretch.
- 3 objectives × 3 KRs is the ceiling. More than that and people don't remember them.
- Score 0.0–1.0; expect ~0.7. If you hit 1.0 on everything, the goals were too easy.
- Separate OKRs from review. Tying compensation to OKR scores breaks the system; people sandbag.
License watch-outs
- OKR Tracker is Apache 2.0 — fully permissive.
- Most other OSS attempts in this space are AGPL-flavored or inactive.
Pick this if…
- Default OSS: OKR Tracker (or Google Sheets — honestly).
- Free hosted, small team: Mooncamp Free or Range Free.
- Paid, performance + OKRs + reviews: Lattice or 15Five.
- Already on Microsoft 365: Viva Goals.
- Engagement / pulse: Officevibe or Culture Amp.
- Async-first team, want check-ins more than goals: Range.
