Online Courses & Dharma Talks

Sounds True, Dharma Seed, Tricycle Online, Bible Project — paid courses and free talk archives across traditions.

The cross-tradition online-learning landscape splits into free archives of recorded talks (Dharma Seed, Forest Sangha, Plum Village, dhammatalks.org, Bible Project) and paid structured courses (Sounds True, Tricycle Online, Insight Timer Plus, Tergar, Aleph Beta, RightNow Media, etc.). Most serious practitioners use both: a free daily talk + an occasional paid course for structure.

Sister sections: Buddhist Traditions & Apps, Buddhist Canon & Sutta Libraries, Christian Apps, Christian Liturgy, Jewish Apps & Sefaria, Islamic Apps, Hindu, Vedic & Yoga, Sangha & Community, Retreats, Meditation Apps.

Honest limits

  • Listening is not practice. Talks teach what to do; only doing it does anything.
  • Dharma binge-listening can be a substitute for sitting; same risk for Bible-podcast or Talmud-class binging.
  • Course-collection ≠ understanding. A finished Sounds True library on the hard drive is not enlightenment.
  • Teacher dependency: parasocial relationships with podcast hosts can be one-sided in unhealthy ways.
  • Quality varies within free libraries; Dharma Seed has 5,000 talks of mixed quality alongside its hundreds of classics.
