Mindfulness apps converged in 2018-22 — the differentiation now is price model + content style: structured curriculum (Headspace), sleep / soundscape (Calm), free + huge library (Insight Timer), or FOSS / no-cloud. Most of these have free tiers worth using before any sub.

Practical guidance
- ★ Free trials before you commit. Headspace + Calm + Insight Timer all have generous free intros. Try a week of each.
- Insight Timer's free tier alone covers 90% of what most people need.
- The app doesn't matter as much as the daily 10 minutes. Don't optimize the tool over the practice.
- If you have cardiac concerns (panic-disorder triggered HR spikes), HRV-paired apps can be over-stimulating; start unguided.
