Practical guidance

  • The diet that you'll do for 12 months wins. Pick adherence-friendly over theoretically-optimal.
  • Most diet apps lock recipes / community behind subs. Often the free tier of a "diet" app is just a tracker — and Cronometer's free tier covers it better.
  • Combine, don't replace. Daily Dozen as a checklist + Cronometer for nutrients + HappyCow for travel = better than any single plant-based app.
  • Be skeptical of glucose-tracker hype. CGMs in healthy people produce data, not insight. Levels is interesting; not life-changing for most.
  • Religious / allergen-flag apps lag reformulations. Always verify the label too.

Pick this if…

  • IBS / low-FODMAP: Monash app.
  • Glucose-curious: Levels (knowing it's a paid experiment).
  • Intermittent fasting: Zero.
  • General "I have a diet" tracker: Cronometer or MyFitnessPal with macros set.
